Forest She Oak (Allocasuarina torulosa)
Medium sized, long-lived tree to 15-20 metres with rough, dark brown bark and dark green needle-like foliage. Foliage may turn reddish-purple in cold weather. Separate male and female plants with the females bearing round, cone-like fruit. Male trees turn golden with pollen when they flower throughout autumn and winter.
The 'cones' attract Glossy Black Cockatoos.
Tolerant of most soil types and prefers a well-drained, moist position. Prefers full sun to part shade. Frost and drought hardy.
